Lameness is one of the most common and most expensive health problems in dairy farming – for both farmers and animals. The cloud and AI-based COW-AI system detects lameness at an early stage, automatically and without an additional animal detection system – reliably and efficiently in daily herd management. The solution is ideal for farms with a centralized return drive, where cattle are observed individually over a long distance.
How COW-AI Works
COW-AI records your animals’ gait using a specially designed camera setup:
- A camera mounted at an angle from above (at a height of 4.5-6 m) observes only the animals in the direction of movement.
- An additional ear tag camera uniquely identifies each animal.
- Captured animal video data is transferred online to COW-AI, where it is analyzed entirely with the help of AI.
- The system recognizes abnormalities in the movement pattern and reports specific lameness events to HERDEplus.
This seamless integration provides you with useful information for your animal monitoring – directly in the familiar herd management environment, mobile, up-to-date and automatic.
COW-AI was developed for the automated evaluation of Friesian-Holstein cows. The contactless technology detects individual changes in gait. The cows are identified using an ear tag camera, and the AI analyzes the recorded movement patterns. Over the course of repeated daily measurements, these patterns are transmitted to HERDEplus as daily averages. Recommendations for action and conclusions can be used in the data network with the hoof care specialist for further treatment.
The Benefits of COW-AI
Why is early detection so crucial?
Undiagnosed lameness has a negative impact on health, performance, and profitability:
