Eines der gravierendsten Probleme in unseren Milchviehherden ist der überproportionale Abgang von jungen Kühen bereits in der ersten Laktation, insbesondere infolge von Tot- bzw. Schwergeburten. Die Geburt des Kalbes nimmt eine Schlüsselstellung im Jahresrhythmus des weiblichen Rindes ein und ist zugleich auch riskantester Moment. Eine problemlose Geburt ist die beste Voraussetzung für die nachfolgende Fruchtbarkeit und optimale Leistungen.\u003C\u002Fp>\n\n\n\n\u003Cp class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Tot- und Schwergeburten sind für den betroffenen Landwirt mit erheblichen finanziellen Einbußen verbunden. Diese setzen sich zum einen durch den Ausfall dieser Kälber für die Zucht und Vermarktung und zum anderen durch die entstehenden Kosten, die das Muttertier betreffen, zusammen. Hauptsächlich sind das die negativen Einflüsse auf das Reproduktionsvermögen der Mutter durch verspätetes Erreichen der Konzeptionsbereitschaft und die Aufwendungen für Tierarzt und Medikamente.
